In March 2026, a fire aboard the USS Gerald R. Ford highlighted how quickly dryer vent systems can become safety concerns. As per the U.S. Naval Institute, the fire took more than 30 hours to extinguish and was traced to a dryer vent system in the ship’s laundry area, with smoke spreading through sections of the vessel and affecting crew members.
